Heat Pump Grants & Renewable Energy Funding

Air Source Heat Pumps Grants – Currently, the only funding available for Heat Pumps in the U.K is the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). However, this is due to change in Aril 2022 with the introduction of Heat Pump Grants in the form of The Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

The Renewable Heat Incentive covers the following low carbon heating systems:

The RHI

Under the Renewable Heat Incentive, you will receive quarterly cash payments over seven years if you install or have already installed an eligible renewable heating technology if you apply in time. The domestic RHI launched on 9 April 2014 and provides financial support to the owner of the renewable heating system for seven years. The scheme covers England, Wales and Scotland. The Renewable Heat Incentive will close to new applications from the 31st March 2022.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Air Source Heat Pumps Grants

Funding for Air Source Heat Pumps will be made available in April 2022 as part of the Government’s new Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Grants will be made available to homeowners in England and Wales to help towards the cost of installing an Air Source Heat Pump or Ground Source Heat Pump.

Grants For Air Source Heat Pump Installations

It is reported that Heat Pump grants will be made available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme of up to £5000 for Air Source Heating and £6000 towards the installation of a Ground Source Heat Pump. In comparison, the RHI paid out over a 7 year period for the energy generated on a quarterly basis.

It is reported that eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme will be very similar to The Green Homes Grants application process. This means that BUS is open to applications from any homeowner across England and Wales who is interested in installing a low carbon heating system.

Grants and Incentives

From April 2022, homeowners who want to install low-carbon heating measures in their properties in England and Wales could receive a £5000 grant from the Government to help fund some of the costs

So what does this mean for homeowners – When The Clean Heat Grant (Boiler Upgrade Scheme) is launched in April 2022, customers will need to contact an MCS (Micro Generation Certification) accredited organisation to carry out the installation. It looks a bit like an air conditioning unit, but sits on the floor outside your house. So you’ll need to have some outdoor space preferably in a sunny area – for it to be located.  You will also need to consider space for a water tank inside your home.  If you don’t have room for a water tank then a hybrid heat pump might be the way to go

Yes, quite possibly. Please bear in mind that for the best energy efficiency you may need to consider upgrading your home’s insulation. Our retrofit co-ordinator would be able to advise you on the best solutions for your property.
